Holly McGarry joins me on Nine Volt Heart to discuss her band’s Berklee beginnings along with their latest disc, Catacombs. They will open Sunday’s festivities at The Back Porch Festival in Northampton’s Academy of Music along with Molly Tuttle and Del and Dawg. The trio of McGarry, Ben Burns and Chris Bloniarz have been nominated for Best Americana Artist of the Year three times in the Boston Music Awards.
Holly talks about her musical beginnings in Idaho and her move to Boston to attend Berklee School of Music. While she entered as a Business Major, she found her “people” among the welcoming Boston music scene. Our conversation covers her musical influences, the band’s song writing process, their Folk Alliance appearance this past month in Kansas City, as well as their thoughts on sharing the stage with their heroes.
The segment includes three tunes from their catalog plus a cut from Holly’s musical pal, Rachel Sumner in her band, Twisted Pine. Give it a listen to hear the early stages of what looks like a successful musical journey for this talented trio.
